If You Walked a Mile in My Shoes...

...then you would know this about me. Check out our fantastic new exhibit of community-created artwork. This month the theme here at the arts center is diversity. Our exhibit is a hands-on exhibit of shoes decorated to relate to the person who created it. PLEASE TOUCH is the theme. Come on out and check it out. Oh, don't forget that Amy Laakman, our visual arts coordinator also has her student's work of photography and poems about shoes.

6th Annual Chalk Walk has record crowd

After a temulous start, the 6th annual Chalk Walk in downtown Jasper turned out to be a beautiful day with record attendance. We were really sweating the weather but everything pulled together in the end.

Although we don't give out prizes for artwork, we noticed a more competitive spirit in the air as teams from local high schools tried to out do each other with sidewalk art. People of all ages participated in this event and enjoyed the music, arts market, food vendors, and many free art activities.

Check out our web site to view some of the photos of this event.

Richie Havens visits Jasper Arts Center

Richie Havens played for the audience at Jasper Arts Center on Saturday, April 18th. He still has that gentle smile. His performance was energetic and compelling. We are so grateful to have been able to present this icon of the Woodstock generation.

The opening act for Richie's performance was an astounding musician, Harry Manx. He entertained with low key humor and a wicked good blues guitar sound. Dog My Cat was my favorite song.

Norb Krapf and Monika Herzig Give Special Event on Sunday Afternoon

A small but very interested audience attended Sunday's poetry and jazz performance at the Jasper Arts Center today. In the tradition of the Beat generation, Norb read many of his Indiana poems while Monika played jazz piano, accompanied by her husband, Peter. Everyone had an opportunity to speak with Norb and Monika after the reading. What a great complement - jazz and poetry.
